Overview
The Audi R8 Type 4S is the second generation of Audi’s world beating flagship sports car. Thanks to the shared ownership of the two brands in the form of the Volkswagen Audi Group, the R8 shares the platform and engine with Lamborghini’s Huracan.
Development began in 2013 and Audi had quite the task replacing a vehicle which had become a staple favourite amongst petrolheads the world over. Two specs were available at launch, the base model and V10 Plus model – with the Huracan V10 engine detuned (540PS) and equally tuned (610PS) respectively. The V8 offering was discontinued, largely due to emissions regulations.
The Quattro all-wheel-drive system utilises variable torque vectoring and is slightly rear-biased, and the car features a water-cooled front diff and a passive limited-slip diff in the rear. Carbon ceramic brakes were also offered as an optional extra.
