The Porsche Cayman, launched in 2005, was intended as a more accessible model than the 911, and the model took the 718 number from the Porsche car which won the Targo Florio race in 1959 and 1960. But the initial replacement of the six-cylinder engine with a turbocharged two-litre flat-four met with such criticism that the company eventually relented and reinstated the options of two four-litre flat-sixes. And of course, that also reawakened the hunger of owners who loved to perk up their cars with help from Porsche aftermarket parts. The two-litre engined cars came to be referred to as a plain ‘718’, while the 2.5-litre cars were badged ‘718S’.

Yet this ‘baby Porsche’ has a great chassis and easy-to-handle controls which place it perfectly as an everyday sports car. A new version, the 718T, was released in early-2019 to compete head-on with the Renault Alpine. This was “a lighter, more focused and more accessible performance variant”. The powertrain was the same as in the standard 718 Cayman, producing 297bhp from a turbocharged two-litre flat-four engine, but the chassis was uprated to the equivalent of the Cayman S, and extra standard equipment included the Sport Chrono package, PASM sports suspension, 20-inch wheels, a sports exhaust, Porsche Torque Vectoring and some interior elements such as the fabric door pulls, sports seats and a smaller GT Sport steering wheel.

Finally, two GTS models, one with a 2.5-litre engine, and the other with the four-litre plant from the Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder were added in 2020. Check us out at Scuderia Car Parts first.
